For me, painting is an act of attention. A way of slowing down long enough to notice what might otherwise be missed.

I am drawn to the things that are easy to pass by—the shape of something growing, an unexpected color, the rhythm of leaves and stems, the way one form interrupts another.

Nature is often where a painting begins, but I am not interested in describing what I see. I am interested in what happens after looking.

 

I work intuitively, building and disrupting the surface—making marks, covering them, scraping back, changing direction. Some things disappear. Others remain as traces. I want the painting to hold that history.

​

Painting asks me to stay with something—to look again, respond, and remain open to what I didn't expect to find.
